About George Stevens Academy George Stevens Academy is an extraordinary high school. We take pride in being able to offer our students a wide selection of courses and activities, excellent teachers and a supportive community environment. In academics, athletics and music, students from GSA rank among the best in the state. The Academy was founded as a co-educational, independent school in 1803, before public education was available here. Today, in a region where many communities offer their teenage students school choice, 350 students from Blue Hill, Maine, and several surrounding towns choose GSA. Because GSA accepts almost every student who wishes to come here, we offer an independent school experience to a broad student population. As an independent school, we maintain great flexibility and creativity in designing programs that best meet the needs of our students. GSA offers a week-long arts festival every year, and we provide a three week independent study option for all juniors and seniors. In addition to meeting Maine Learning Results graduation standards, our students also chart Personal Learning Plans that go beyond the minimum requirements for their education. About Blue Hill, Maine The Blue Hill Peninsula is known for its traditional, coastal fishing and boatbuilding history but more recently, it has become an oasis for writers, painters, sculptors, and musicians. The charming village of Blue Hill is situated at the mouth of Blue Hill Bay and is a collection of shops, art galleries, pottery studios, restaurants, a first-class public library, a music lending library, and lovely nineteenth-century houses. Throughout the year, there are opportunities to attend or participate in classical, jazz, steel drum, and choral concerts. George Stevens Academy is at the heart of this special place. From Blue Hill, there is easy access to northern Maine's largest shopping city (Bangor) and university (University of Maine). When classes are over, you can:

Admission to GSA is based upon the candidate's transcript, application essay, English teacher and counselor recommendations, and whenever possible, standardized tests such as the SSAT, PSAT, TOEFL, and SLEP. A campus visit and interview are highly recommended for all applicants. Telephone interviews will be arranged for candidates who are unable to visit. Application Schedule George Stevens Academy has a rolling admissions policy which means that applications will be accepted throughout the school year and summer. We recommend, however, that candidates complete the application process by May 15. An admissions decision will be made within three weeks of an application file's completion.
